Career tips from Lois Frankel

Lois Frankel, author of Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office: 101 Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers, uses the acronym WALLET to teach people about building their own personal brand. What is WALLET? (Text from her program on KNX 1070.)

W. Write down what you want people to say about your personal brand in no more than 25 words.
A. Act on it. Take those words and turn them into actions. For example if you want to be known for an excellent work product, start researching, editing and checking quality before turning in your work.
L. Let others know when you’ve acted true to your brand, for example, you can say, “our team worked all night to make that deadline, but we did it!”
L. Look to the edge where winners play the game. Don’t always play it safe.
E. Elicit feedback. Find out if you’re hitting your marks.
T. Treat others with a spirit of abundance. There is more than enough for everyone. Believe it. Act that way.
